MBA Apprenticeship: What it Means and Your Options

Thu, 28 March, 2024

If you're on the hunt for an MBA programme that qualifies for Apprenticeship Funding, you may have come across the term "MBA Apprenticeship" online. However, it's important to note that there's no such thing as an MBA Apprenticeship per se. That being said, there are still options available for those interested in pursuing an MBA through an apprenticeship scheme, or as an Executive MBA.

Can you do an MBA Apprenticeship?

As mentioned earlier, there's no such thing as an MBA Apprenticeship. That being said, it is possible to attain an MBA through an apprenticeship scheme.

To do so, choose an MBA programme that meets the apprenticeship standard and the government has approved for funding. Many, such as our Senior Leader Apprenticeship offer a top-up to MBA. It requires an extra cost but is far cheaper than a standard MBA programme.

You'll also need to find an employer who is willing to sponsor your apprenticeship and provide you with on-the-job training. This can be a challenging process, but it is also a great way to gain valuable work experience while pursuing an advanced degree.

Can an MBA be an Apprenticeship?

An MBA can be attained through a high-level apprenticeship, such as our level 7 senior leader apprenticeship, but remember that not all MBA programmes meet the senior leader apprenticeship standard.

To qualify as an apprenticeship, a programme must meet several criteria, such as including a significant amount of on-the-job training, work-based learning, face-to-face sessions leading to a recognised qualification.

Some MBA programmes may meet these criteria, but it's important to do your research and ensure that the programme you're considering is officially recognised as an apprenticeship.

Can I do an MBA through the Apprenticeship Levy?

The Apprenticeship Levy is a UK government scheme designed to fund apprenticeships for businesses of all sizes. Businesses with a payroll of over £3 million are required to contribute to the levy, which can then be used to fund apprenticeship training. While the levy can be used for a wide range of apprenticeship programmes, not all MBA programmes qualify.

To be eligible for the levy, an MBA programme must meet the apprenticeship standard and be approved for funding by the government. If you're interested in pursuing an MBA through the apprenticeship levy, it's important to check with your employer and ensure that the programme you're considering is eligible for funding.

The NSIRC and DMU Level 7 Apprenticeship programme (Senior Leader Apprenticeship) has an optional MBA top-up that means you can be supported by Apprenticeship Levy funding while working towards your MBA ambition.

In conclusion, while there's no such thing as an MBA Apprenticeship, it is possible to attain an MBA through an apprenticeship scheme. With the right programme and employer support, an MBA through an apprenticeship can be a great way to gain valuable experience and advance your career.
